Matthew was born and raised in Hamilton, where he attended McMaster University and completed an Honours B.A. in Economics with a minor in History in 2004. He attended law school at the University of Windsor, obtaining his L.L.B. in 2008. He articled at Sullivan Festeryga and then joined the firm as an Associate upon his call to the Bar in 2009.
